SGL provided specialist glass lamination for the nation’s first all-inclusive Naval Memorial at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire. Unveiled by Prince Michael of Kent at a ceremony in front of 1,500 veterans, this highly creative installation is made from specially-commissioned screen-printed glass panels, described as ‘sails of coloured glass’ and representing all the oceans of the world. The screen-printed panels were supplied by Proto Studios in Wiltshire.
The memorial was commissioned by the Royal Naval Association, and is to be known as the Naval Service Memorial.
When the light passes through the brilliantly coloured glass panels, the shadows make beautiful patterns on the glass terrace, reflecting the theme of the memorial: ‘At the going down of the sun, we will remember them’.
SGL were delighted to be chosen by Proto Studios to laminate the glass for this highly prestigious commission, a process carried out in our own Taunton workshops. More about this project>
